Beverly Lois Holenko, International Falls, Minn., died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008. She was 70 years of age.
Born April 16, 1938, in International Falls, she graduated from Falls High School Class of 1956. She lived in Two Harbors, Minn., for six years in the 1960s and then moved back to the Falls where she remained.
She was united in marriage to James Holenko on Sept. 27th, 1958; they had just celebrated 50 years together.
Bev was a retired realtor for Island View Realty. In her spare time she enjoyed the outdoors by spending time at the hunting shack, fishing, golfing or winning the “Jewel Box Tournament.”
She adored her kids and grandsons above all else and was a huge sports fan, avidly watching the Vikings, Timber Wolves and college sports.
Bev was known for practicality and common sense. She was a real people person and loved visiting family, friends, and strangers alike.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents, Oscar and Minnie Sutherland, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth “Butch” Sutherland, sister, Delores Sutherland, and son, Randy Holenko.
Bev is survived by her loving husband, James Holenko; son, Jeff Holenko of Shakopee, Minn.; daughters, Cindy (Rae Bentz) Holenko of Ely, Minn., Sandy Holenko of Bloomington, Minn., and Michelle Holenko of Shakopee, Minn.; grandsons, Joseph and Michael; brother, Keith “Oscar” Sutherland; sisters, Darlene (Roland) Bahr of Bonney Lake, Wash., Karen (Norman) Boyum of International Falls, Diane (Joe) Naegele of Kent, Wash., and Crystal Bassette of Arizona, as well as sisters-in-law, Rhoda Sutherland of Paola, Kan., and Eileen “Ky” Holenko of International Falls; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Zion Lutheran Church, International Falls. Pastor Stephen Olson will officiate.
Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the North Star Hospice, the American Cancer Society, or the Randy Holenko Scholarship Fund in memory of Beverly.
