Daniel Jerome Geer

Daniel Jerome Geer, of International Falls, Minn., died at his home surrounded by his family, Monday, Aug. 25, 2008. Daniel was 81 years of age.
Born Aug. 14, 1927, in Bemidji, Minn., to Lester and Stella (Zilbert) Geer, Dan moved to International Falls at the age of 2.
He began working for Mando Paper Company as a mail carrier when he was 15 years old. When he was 16, he worked in the Insulite plant on weekends and holidays while attending high school. Dan’s career with Boise lasted for over 40 years.
In 1944 at the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was not called into active duty until 1945 as the war was coming to a close. He served in the Pacific Theater, stationed in the Philippines and serving on several ships, one of which was the PCE 595. He was honorably discharged in July of 1946.
On Jan. 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former LaVerne Linder. Together they raised four children.
Dan loved to spoil his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. More than anything he enjoyed spending time with family.
He was a member of the VFW in International Falls and St. Thomas Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Stella Geer; brother, Robert Geer; sister, Elaine Knight; and son, Mike Geer.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, LaVerne of International Falls, Minn.; son, David Geer of Hutchinson, Minn.; daughters, Mary (Duane) Fish of International Falls, Minn. and Sharon (Bob) Walker of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Dana Gaudreau, Nicole McCourt, Troy Fish, Robert Fish, D.J. Fish, Sarah Miller, Daniel Walker, Gretchen Geer, Michael Geer, and Samuel Geer; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Garnet Ames of International Falls, Dolores (Bob) Dahl of Lebanon, Ore., and Donna (Ron) Pearson of Sonoma, Calif.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Green-Larsen Mortuary. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 6:30.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with military rites.
If so desired, in memoriam donations would be preferred to North Star Hospice.
