Dan died March 6, 2008 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn., after a brief hospitalization.
He was born Feb. 12, 1959 in International Falls, Minn., to Peter and Helen Fichuk. Dan graduated from Falls High School in 1977, Rainy River Community College in 1979 and the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks with a bachelor of science degree in business administration (aviation major) in 1982.
Dan worked for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for 21 1/2 years. He was an air traffic control specialist in Farmington, Hibbing and Princeton, Minn.; and also in Fairbanks, Alaska.
In October 2006 Dan returned to Farmington as a flight data specialist. He held his commercial pilot’s license and had been a flight instructor.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed working on his property on Rainy Lake.
Dan was loved by his family and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Fichuk; sister, Bonnie (Delbert) Hickey of International Falls; brother, Peter (Lin) Fichuk of Chaska, Minn.; nieces, Lynn Hickey (daughter Ashley) of Coon Rapids, Minn. and Jamie Clenney of Loomis, Calif.; nephews, Bryan Hickey of Alaska and Michael (Andrea) Hickey (daughters Victoria and Morgan) of Strathcona, Minn.; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Fichuk Sr., and sisters, Nancy Fichuk and Janice (Fichuk) Parks.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday June 28, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, International Falls.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, International Falls.
If so desired, in memoriam donations would be preferred to the Rainy River Community College Foundation.
