Dean Scott Skogstad, 40

Dean Scott Skogstad, 40, of Roseau, Minn., formerly of International Falls, Minn., died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, due to injuries from a car accident.

He was born Nov. 30, 1967, in Minneapolis, Minn., and the family moved to International Falls when he was two years old.

Dean was a 1986 graduate of Falls High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army serving until his honorable discharge in 1988.

Dean moved to Roseau in 1994, where he married Lorri Hams in 1995 and they where married for 10 years.

He was employed at Polaris Industries in Roseau from 1994 until March of 2007.

Dean enjoyed spending time at his home, gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends and his dog, “Scooby.” He was always willing to help work at his Dad’s cabin on the Randeen Ridge. He had a great passion and love for nature and growing anything. Dean also was active rebuilding his home and yard following the Roseau flood.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rodney; his grandparents; and his uncle, Vernon.

Dean is survived by his mother, Mary Skogstad of International Falls, Minn.; his sister, Melissa (Tom) Holt, and his brother, Roger Skogstad, all of International Falls, Minn.; his uncle and friend, Syd (Laura) Skogstad of Roseau; special friend, Heidi Sourdif of Roseau; his step children, Chris and Jamie Hams; three nephews and one niece; and many other relatives and his dear dog, Scooby.

Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.

A Mass of Christian Burial was planned for 2 p.m. today, Monday, Dec. 31,  at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Roseau, with visitation also an hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Interment will be at Radeen Ridge Cemetery, with military honors by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard.
