Frederick Ludwig Jerome, 89, of International Falls, died Saturday evening, Dec. 19, 2009, at Falls Good Samaritan Center.
Frederick was born Oct. 23, 1920, in International Falls.
He graduated from Falls High School with the Class of 1939.
He served in the Merchant Marines and the United States Navy during World War II. He was on board the M.L. Abele when it was sunk off Okinawa. After he was discharged from the Navy, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He returned to the Falls until he moved to the Cloquet area in the 70s where he worked as a welder and metal fabricator.
He returned to International Falls in 2008, where he had resided since.
Frederick enjoyed spending time on Rainy Lake, fishing, target shooting, helping others, and spending time outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Elizabeth (Klinke) Jerome; special friend, Helen Wuorinen; five brothers, Richard, Ervin, Warner, Eli, and Wilbur; and a sister, Lucille.
Frederick is survived by his local nephews, Mike Jerome, Roger Jerome and Larry Jerome; niece, Stephanie Vohler; and numerous other relatives.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Green-Larsen Mortuary with flag presentation.
Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.
