Herbert ‘Herb’ Bishop, 72

Herbert “Herb” Bishop, 72, of 686 Kale Road, Boone, Iowa, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Boone County Hospital.
His body has been cremated and a memorial service was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall, in Boone, with Rev. Phil Webb officiating.
Burial of the cremains will be at a later date.
Herb Bishop was born in Fox, Minn., July 29, 1935, the son of Herbert and Gladys (Littleby) Bishop.
He attended school in International Falls, Minn.
He married Sue Helderman March 20, 1959, in International Falls.
Herb was grading superintendent of Hallett Construction in Boone from 1960 to 1982. He then worked for Manatt’s Inc. in Ames as a grading superintendent and blade operator from 1983 to 2000, when he retired. After retirement, he owned Bishop Construction for five years.
Herb enjoyed fishing, hunting, especially deer hunting, flower gardening, playing poker, and watching television, especially war movies.
He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry.
He is survived by his wife, Sue of Boone; two sons, Herbie Bishop and wife Cindy of Boone and Jody Bishop of Ogden; three daughters, Debi Peterson and husband Scott of Ogden, Tammy Martin and husband Ernie of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Shelli Wilson and husband Shane of Brooklyn, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Jessica Peterson, Michael Peterson, Sydney Bishop, Seth Bishop, Alexandra Martin, Samanta Martin, Jacob Wilson, Emily Wilson, Clarrisa Davis and Greg Davis; a great-granddaughter, Natasha Peterson.
Herb is also survived by three brothers, Larry Bishop of Luther, Jack Bishop of Perham, Minn., and Jim Bishop and wife Amelda of Dakota City, Neb., and a sister, Carole Clements and husband Stan of Lake Havasu, Ariz.
Memorials may be given to Homeward Hospice of Ames.
