Marcella M. Puttbrese Schyvincht, 95

Marcella M. Schyvincht was born Oct. 29, 1913, in Poplar Grove Township, Roseau County, to Edward and Katherine (Keller) Vanous.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Grass Lake country school in Poplar Grove Township. Following school she lived and worked on her family’s farm.

Marcella was united in marriage to William Puttbrese in Roseau County on June 3, 1933, and the two made their home and farmed in Poplar Grove Township.

She and William moved to Dekalb, Ill., in 1962 and Marcella went to work at a manufacturing plant.

William and two of their children, Heman and Darlene, passed away Jan. 2, 1964, in Shabbona, Ill., due to a train/car accident and Marcella continued to make her home in Dekalb.

She was later united in marriage to Henry Schyvincht. After Henry passed away Marcella then made her home in Aurora before moving to Greenbush in 1995. Marcella entered LifeCare Greenbush Manor in August of 2006 where she passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at the age of 95 years, 11 months, and 27 days.

Marcella enjoyed gardening and flowers, embroidering, sewing, quilting, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.

She was a long time member of Klondike Lutheran Church of rural Strathcona and recently attended Oiland Free Lutheran Church of rural Greenbush.

Marcella is survived by three sons, Roy (Jenny) of Albany, Ore., Rudy (Millie) of International Falls and Edward Puttbrese of Duluth; five daughters, Carol (Chuck) Paine of Makinen, Marcella (Alvin) Sather of Greenbush, Kay (Ken) Lee of International Falls, Daisy (Bill) Cantrell of Greenbush and Virginia (Curly) Johnson of Rochelle, Ill.; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Puttbrese of Bemidji; two step sons, Chuck (Merri) Schyvincht of Sycamore, Ill. and Dennis Schyvincht of Iowa; 31 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kate Nelson of Butte, Mont. and Kathleen Weflen of Bismarck, N.D.; along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William and Henry; five brothers, Edward, Rudy, Fred, Joe and Albert Vanous; one sister, Dorothy Norhagen; parents; four sons, William, Albert, Anton and Heman Puttbrese; one daughter, Darlene Puttbrese; two grandsons, Rodney and Russell Puttbrese; two great-grandsons, Dustin Hanson and Steven Puttbrese Jr.

Blessed be her memory.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 2, at Grace Evangelical Church, Strathcona, with the Rev. Alvin Sather and Pastor Jim Christianson presiding. The Rev Bob Ludwig was the pianist and special music was provided by Joanne Strandland, Curly Johnson and Randy Lee.

Marcella’s grandsons Aldyn and Rick Sather, Randy Lee, Terry and Jerry Paine, Calvin, Steven, Neil, Eddie, Kevin, Wayne, Randy and Roger Puttbrese acted as casketbearers.

Interment followed the luncheon at Klondike Cemetery of rural Strathcona.
