Melvin Herman Frisch, 84, of Littlefork, Minn., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, Minn.
Melvin was born Dec. 12, 1923, at Sumner, Iowa. He was raised by his grandparents and grew up on a farm in Grove Lake, Minn.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. When he returned to the states in 1946, he started farming in the Grove Lake area until he moved to International Falls in 1952. In International Falls he started working for the MD&W Railroad and was the yard master. He retired in 1988 with 36 years of service.
On Nov. 7, 1996, he married the former Dorothy Johnson at Glenwood, Minn.
Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling and was an all-around outdoorsman. He was active with his son in the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and was secretary of the union.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Lilly (Barth) Frisch; brothers, Harold, Richard, Ralph and Russell Frisch; and sister, Betty Martin.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Dorothy; five sons, Terry (Madonna) Frisch of Johnston, Iowa, Ralph (Peg) Frisch of East Lansing, Mich., Ken (Sue) Frisch of Coon Rapids, Minn., Mike (Carol) Frisch of Foster City, Calif., and Steve (Becky) Frisch of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Cheryl (Jim) Harkabus of Superior, Wis.; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services with full military rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Green-Larsen Mortuary.
Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Loman, Minn.
