Myron “Mynie” Konnon Haglund, age 87, Marshfield, Wis., died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at the Marshfield Care Center.
A memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. today, Monday, Oct. 6, at Faith Lutheran Church, Marshfield. Pastor Tricia Turner officiated. Military rites were conducted at Faith Lutheran Church following the service.
Entombment took place in McMillan Memorial Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum.
The family received relatives and friends at the church Monday from 10 until service time.
Myron was born Sept. 22, 1921, in International Falls, Minn. There his parents Edward Konnon Haglund and Claire (Reiners) raised their three sons, Wayne, Myron and Wallace.
Myron left “the Falls” after graduation in 1939.
The “Ice Box” of the north remained home for his parents, brothers and many of the five nieces and three nephews. Over the years many summer and Christmas vacations were spent with these loved ones “up north.”
As adults, the Haglund brothers found their Swedish relatives. Myron was proud to expand his family with his Swedish half sister, Miken Gustafson, her five daughters, and their children. Both sides of the family made up for lost time as each side of the family traveled across the ocean to share their love.
Myron attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. Here he fell in love with June, his future wife. The war interrupted their romance and Myron became a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, Second Division, and served in the Pacific during World War II from 1943 until 1946. After the war, Myron and June graduated and they were married Nov. 2, 1946, in Duluth, Minn.
Myron’s first job was with Land ‘O Lakes Creameries. He continued to work for them as a “cheeseman” for 40 years with the first 17 years in Minneapolis and then for 23 years in Spencer, Wis.
Myron was a loving husband and June was the center of his world. Myron always said that he was happy if she was happy. He was a loving father and shared his love of nature with his daughter, Jill, during their days of agate hunting on Lake Superior and their many camping trips. He gave Jill his “green thumb” in gardening and in later years watched as June took over their beautiful gardens. Myron was thrilled when he finally became a grandfather. Granddaughter Kari was the “apple of his eye.”
He loved to tinker, carve and make all kinds of crafts. His organization and handiwork still exists in homes across the country. He loved to travel. After retirement, he traveled with his wife to many places, including Spain, Portugal, China, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Panama Canal, Alaska and England.
Myron was a kind and caring man. Fishing, golfing, and “happy hours” were ways to share time with friends. To this day friendships remain from Myron and June’s lives at Gustavus, Queen Avenue in Minneapolis, later years in Marshfield and many winters as “snow birds” in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
The family would like to thank the many people who have touched Myron’s life as they are an important part of the Haglund’s extended family. A special thanks to those friends and family that have been by Myron, June, and Jill’s side during these last months. The family deeply appreciates the care provided by the staff at the Marshfield Care Center.
Myron is survived by his loving and devoted wife Muriel June (Dahlberg) his daughter, Jill and her husband Ernest Hailey and their daughter, Kari of Madison, Wis. He is also survived by a brother, Wallace and his wife, Adeline and a sister-in-law, Patricia (Wayne) of International Falls, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Myron was predeceased by his parents, his older brother, a half sister, and two infant children who died at birth.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church of Marshfield.
