Norbert Elmore Snyder, age 83, of International Falls, Minn., died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, Minn.
He was born Feb. 20, 1925, at St. Peter, Minn., to Norbert and Elsie Snyder.
Norbert graduated from St. James High School, St. James, Minn., in 1943 and later graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1950.
He enlisted in the United States Navy July 21, 1943; he was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. While in the Navy he was a member of a medical unit and enjoyed singing in the Loblolly Naval Chorus. He was honorably discharged March 8, 1946.
Norbert was united in marriage to Jacqueline LaBelle Aug. 26, 1951.
He was employed as a systems analyst/computer operations manager with the Green Giant Company from 1952 to 1980.
Norbert enjoyed listening to classical and gospel music. He was a member of a mixed quartet, traveling and singing for 50 years.
He had a passion for gardening, growing flowers and spending time on Rainy Lake.
He was a charter member of the Word of Life Lutheran Church, LeSueur, Minn., and also was a longtime member of Evangelical Covenant Church in International Falls.
Norbert enjoyed volunteering his time as a playground aid at Park Elementary in LeSueur and at West End Elementary in International Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Elsie Snyder; sister, Eloise Stewart; and brother, Dennis Snyder.
He is survived by loving wife, Jacqueline Snyder; sons, Jeffrey Raymond (Kris) Snyder and John Richard (Betty Johnson) Snyder; daughter, Jean Laraine Schoeppner; grandchildren, Jamie Snyder, Naomi Fredericksen, Matt (Katie) Schoeppner and Melissa (Nick) Schoeppner, and Landan Snyder; great-granddaughter, Emeri, along with numerous other great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dan (Rita) LaBelle; and sisters-in-law, Renee (Bob) Horn and Jeanette (Chuck) Blevins.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today, Friday, Sept. 26, followed by the funeral service at 11 at Evangelical Covenant Church.
Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn., at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29.
If so desired, in memoriam donations would be preferred to Evangelical Covenant Church or KBHW Radio.
