Raymond Axel Pearson went to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 21, 2009.
He was born to Sven and Hedvig Pearson in Roseau, Minn., on Jan. 9, 1919.
He married Myrtle Dahl on Feb. 19, 1937, and enjoyed 70 years of marriage before she went home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2007.
During his 90 years of life he served in the U.S. Army as a cook in Germany and in the following years was a lumberjack, farmer, milkman, mill worker, and factory worker at both Polaris and Marvin Windows.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed teaching his grandsons and great grandsons how to hunt, trap and fish panfish on Hayes Lake. He was an avid bike rider in his later years and then took up hiking. He wore out many pairs of walking shoes as he traveled the back roads around his home with his dog “Pia,” often walking 12 miles a day.
A member of the Covenant Church in Falun, his faith was a daily walk.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Jean Bragg (Norbert) of Devlin, Ontario; grandsons, Douglas (Kathy) Galusha of International Falls, and Mike Galusha (Barb Fish) of Salol; great-grandchildren, Jackie (Jason) Hovis, Paul Galusha (Victoria Lund), Jodi Galusha, (Scott Sandstrom), and Cody Galusha; five great-great-grandchildren, Audrey, William, and Isabel Wren Hovis, Trevor and Megan Galusha.
He is also survived by his brother, Roy (Margaret) Pearson; sister-in-law, Harriette Naslund; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Edwin, Oscar and Ernie; infant sister, Margaret; and son-in-law, Jack Galusha.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Roseau.
Interment will be at Falun Cemetery at a later date.
