Richard ‘Bud’ E. Kopkie, 91

Richard “Bud” E. Kopkie, 91 years old, of International Falls, Minn., passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born Sept. 11, 1917, in LaMoure, N.D.

He married Ethel LaNora Hosterman on July 21, 1946, in Birchdale, Minn. This union was blessed with five children.

Bud worked for Mando/Boise Cascade for 32 1/2 years, retiring in 1981.

Bud was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He made hundreds of rugs on a loom and attended many craft sales around the state of Minnesota.

He also enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren.

Richard is survived by Ethel, his loving wife of 62-plus years; his children, Doug (Mary) Kopkie of Tucson, Ariz., Judy (Mike) Mosley of Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada, Steve (Bev) Kopkie of Park Rapids, Minn., and Dwight Kopkie of Rochelle, Ill.

Also surviving are his seven grandchildren, Roxanne Kopkie, Dustin (Marla) Kopkie, Michelle (Brian) Sabbe, Theresa (Ryan Clark) Mosley, Seth (Lizzie) Kopkie, Joel (Hannah) Kopkie, and Maria (Kyle) Shepherd, as well as 15 great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild.

In addition, Richard is survived by his sisters, Blanche (Jack) Walling of Merrill, Ore. and Midgie McGuire of Williams, Minn.; and his brother, Harvey (Mary) Kopkie of LaCenter, Wash.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Kopkie; his parents, E.M. and Augusta Kopkie; his brothers, Harry, Ralph and Albert; his twin sister, Reva; and sisters, Ella and Everett.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Evangelical Covenant Church, International Falls, Minn.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be at Clementson Community Cemetery.
