Robert Erick Movold, age 82, of Rice, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids.
Friends may gather one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.
Robert was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Fosston, Minn., to Clifford and Ruby (Erickson) Movold.
His formative years were spent in International Falls where he attended school.
He enlisted in the Navy and proudly served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and also served in the Korean Conflict.
He returned to Minnesota and worked in the family business, Alexandria Boat Works. Most of his working life was spent in sales. In 2001, he retired from the St. Cloud Serwing Center. Robert was a Mason and Life Member of the Minnesota American Legion and the VFW, specifically Akeley VFW Post 8508 and Akeley and Backus American Legions. In 1967, he established VFW Post 7902 in Osakis and was also past Commander.
Robert was an avid fisherman and hunter and a great sports enthusiast. He loved music and dancing and had a special love for his cabin on Big Portage Lake in Backus. He was a kind and honest man devoted to his family, his work, and his country.
Robert is survived by his wife, Shari of Rice; children, Penny Movold of Alexandria, Roxanne (Walter) Tischer of Alexandria, Tammy (Robert) Kluver of Alexandria, Jeff Movold of Fargo, N.D., Gayle Movold of Menlo Park, Calif., Mary Jo Verbos of Milton, Wash., Vicki (Kurt) Mortenson of LaQuinta, Calif., Michelle (Michael) Weisen of Rice and Angela Levandowski of Richmond; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sharon Moudre; brothers, Mark and John “Jack” Movold; and nephew, Erik Movold
