Sadie Running was born June 28, 1908, in Chisholm, Minn.
She passed away May 22, 2009, at Littlefork Medical Center, Littlefork, Minn.
Sadie’s parents were Jack Jaakko and Annie Maria Mannila of Jacobson, Minn. The family left the Iron Range to farm near Jacobson in 1914.
Sadie attended elementary and high school in Hibbing, Minn., and graduated from Keewatin High School in 1926. She attended Teachers Training School in Grand Rapids, Minn., and St. Cloud Teachers College. Sadie was a teacher in a rural one room school for nine years in Aitkin County, Minn.
In 1942, Sadie moved to Littlefork to work for her brothers at their sawmill. She worked as their bookkeeper for 25 years. Sadie continued working part time for them after the Mannila Bros. Mill moved to Big Falls, Minn., until 1968.
Sadie married Harold I. Running Nov. 4, 1950, and lived in Littlefork until her death.
She was a director for the Northern Minnesota District Fair Association for 27 years, of which she was secretary and treasurer for six years. Sadie was a member of Littlefork Lutheran Church, was a member of their Council and Women’s WELCA serving in several offices and a member of Senior Citizens and Quilting Group.
Sadie’s hobbies and interests included gardening, knitting, crocheting, quilting and reading. She was known for her excellent cooking and her warm hospitality.
Sadie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold I.; her parents; brothers, Viette (Vic) (wife Opal) and Olli E. (wife Helen); sisters, Aini (husband Sulo) Hackman and Elvie (husband Rex) Foster; and great-nephew, David Foster.
Survivors are her step son, Harold L. (wife Diane) Running; two step grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; many grand and great-grand nephews and nieces; and other relatives here and in Finland, Europe.
Memorial services will conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Littlefork Lutheran Church, Littlefork.
Interment will be at Oakley Cemetery, Littlefork.
