Stella Rose Sandbeck, 77, died peacefully at her home Thursday, May 29, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Stella was born March 6, 1931 in Fort Frances, Ontario to Peter and Malania Zeleny.
She was united in marriage to Donald W. Sandbeck on Nov. 26, 1949 in International Falls, where she had resided since.
She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America in her younger years.
She worked for George M. Crow, M.D. for over 18 years until she retired to help take care of her grandchildren.
Stella is survived by her son, Bruce (Jan) and their children, Luke (Monique) and Sara; her daughter, Marie of International Falls; her son, Calvin (Karen) of Cuchara, Colo., and their children, Christopher and Ryan; brother, Donald (Marcie) Zeleny of Fort Frances, Ontario; sister, Olga (Bill) Madill of Duluth, Minn.; sister-in-law, Dolores Kyryluk of International Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stella enjoyed spending time at the family cabin, being a part of the Debartalo fantasy football team and spending time with her family – especially with her grandchildren.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (Sandy), and her parents, Malania and Peter Zeleny.
Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, International Falls.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to North Star Hospice, St. Thomas Church or the American Cancer Society.
