The Daily Journal has made some resolutions for itself and has a few we’d like to see others make as we begin 2009.

Our federal leaders and our newly elected president ought to resolve to restore the public’s faith by implementing plans that will bring stability to the economy. Those plans must address the practices that created the financial meltdown in the first place.

Our state leaders must resolve to consider running government like a private business or family household by only spending money it can afford.

All political leaders must resolve to have the strength to do what’s right, the sense to seek advice from constituents, and the forethought to consider the consequences of their actions.

Our local leaders ought to resolve to put past differences behind them to work for the common good of the community. Local elected officials have the ability to pursue projects they believe right for their constituents while supporting the efforts of the others.

Consumers must resolve to make purchases that stimulate the economy without putting their own financial health at risk.

We hope that 401K participants can resolve to stay the course and keep the faith that their retirement funds will heal.

We should all resolve to consider how we can be healthier and to work up the strength to do what’s needed, whether that be to quit smoking, become more active, or cut calories.

We hope that all snowmobilers resolve to belong to a club to help maintain trails, as well as to drive with safety always in mind.

And we urge everyone who can to resolve to support those in need, including people and pets who are hungry for food and a home, as well as those seeking knowledge and a simple hand up.
