As family and friends watched, 96 seniors graduated from Falls High School Thursday.
Receiving their high school diplomas is the end of 13 years of formal education, Superintendent Don Langan told the crowd.
But “education is seldom a solitary endeavor,” he said, noting that the community is a part of the process.
It is his sincere hope that in the years they have spent in education, they have grown academically, socially, morally and spiritually, he said, and the time has been more than only credits and hours spent in a classroom.
Class President Kasey Skirten told her classmates that no words could compare to the memories that they have had together.
They are ending the first chapter in the book of their lives, she said. Each of their books will be different, but they have a shared introduction, she said.
“Each new day is a new page,” Skirten said.
Most of the students graduating have been together for the past 12 years, student council representative Scotta Turner told her classmates. But next year, things will be different. Some will move away, some will stay. Some will come back to start families, and some will visit on holidays.
“You only have one life to live, live it to the fullest,” she said as she ended by leading her classmates in a “2008” cheer.
The class motto was the anonymous quote, “Our lives are before us, our past is behind us, but our memories are forever with us.”
The class flower is gladiolus — “strength of character;” the class song is “I Go Back” by Kenny Chesney; and the class colors are purple, gold and white.
Christine Lucachick was the class valedictorian and Katrina Blais was the class salutatorian.
