A cast of local children has been rehearsing this week in preparation to present “Aladdin and His Magic Lamp,” a Prairie Fire Theater Tour Production for the community. Curtain time is 7 p.m. on Saturday.
A gallery-style art show featuring the creativity of local children will also be open to the public beginning at 5:30 p.m. The multi-faceted event takes place at the Backus Community Center.
About 55 young people ages 7 to 18 are involved in the play presented by the Rainy River Community College Foundation, the Northland Arts Society, and Backus Community Center.
In town to work with the children as well as perform in “Aladdin,” are directors Rachel Kunnie as the “Lamp Genie,” and Gavin Nachtigall as the “Evil Magician.” Central characters in the play are performed by local student, including Jacob Franz as “Aladdin,” Sarah Remus as “Princess Serena,” Madison Foss as “Zanda,” Maddy Beal as “Harmonia,” Ben Shofner as the “Sultan,” Joe Toninato as the “Vizier,” and Laura Glover as the “Ring Genie.”
Throughout the week there have been artist workshops, in which local NAS artists have instructed and guided the children in assorted art media.
The activity is made possible in part by a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council through an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature.
Admission is $5 for children ages 12 and under and $10 for adults.
