International Falls’ Bantam B team won a Star of the North tournament in Grand Rapids on the Dec. 4-6 weekend. After losing 10-4 to Baudette in the first game of the season on Nov. 29, the Falls rebounded with three straight wins in the tournament.
In the tournament opener on Friday, Logan Veillieux took a pass from Ian Ratio and scored a game-winning, short-handed goal with 4:34 to play to beat Champlin Park 3-2. Brady Walls scored the first goal for the Falls with assists going to Jakob Ettestad and Veillieux, while Caleb Dahlin scored the second goal after receiving a pass from Walls. Veillieux also recorded an assist on the second goal. Kyle Toratti pushed aside 12 shots for the win. The Falls finished with 40 shots.
In the semifinals, the Falls crushed Sauk Rapids 9-0. Veillieux netted four goals, Ettestad tallied two and Walls, Ratio and Luke Spilde each had one goal. Ratio had four assists and Spilde dished out three. Tyler Englund turned away eight shots.
In the championship, the Falls left little doubt with a 10-3 win against Proctor. Dahlin scored seven goals, Adam Mathews scored two goals and Zach Manka tallied one. Veillieux and Walls posted four assists each and Toratti stopped 29 shots. Contributed photo
