Organizers of the first-ever Chronic Disease Management Symposium scheduled for March 29 are encouraging all residents to come out and learn about chronic disease management.
The symposium runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Center Auditorium.
“It’s not just for those who already have a chronic disease,” explained Patti-Jo Ledrew, who is a registered nurse at the Fort Frances Community Clinic and is in charge of overseeing the Chronic Disease Management Program.
“The exhibits and presentations are aimed at helping people who may be at risk for developing a chronic disease and also for people and their families who are managing a chronic disease.”
“The information about prevention strategies and healthy lifestyles will be helpful for everyone,” she said.
Health care professionals and exhibitors will be on hand to discuss topics such as: “Healthy Eating Using the Portion Plate,” “Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Hypertension and Your Kidneys,” “Smoking Cessation,” the “Healthy Living Food Box,” “Substance Abuse” and “Dental Care.”
A full slate of presenters have also been lined up to provide 15-minute informational sessions on How to Talk to Your Doctor, Medication Safety, Eye Health, Resistance Exercise and Motivational Exercise. The informational sessions get underway at noon.
“Many organizations have come together to provide this comprehensive symposium,” noted Ledrew.
“It’s going to be a great opportunity for the general public to gather a lot of helpful information and have access to a diverse group of health care professionals.”
“It will be well worth it for those who attend!” she enthused.
Admission is free for everyone. A free lunch will be provided for the first 200 people. Giveaways and prize drawings will also be featured.
