Rainy Waters Yoga provides a nurturing environment for all to strengthen the body, quiet the mind and lift the spirit, according to instructor Heather von Ruden
People may join von Ruden in discovering the methods to obtain physical and mental health during the spring session that began March 10 through May 1.
The spring classes are designed for the beginner to learn the breathing techniques and posturing exercises for the limbs, back, eyes and neck. There are exercises for the physically fit and those not accustomed to exercise or even if they have illness or disabilities. The meditation techniques and exercises to keep people focused on their body and mind as a temple.
The yoga basics class is designed for new students and those interested in exploring the basics of Hatha yoga at a slow and gentle pace. Classes are held on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Once participants have the yoga basics down, they go on to Level 1. This is an introduction to the flow method, with an emphasis on integration of breath and movement through warm up stretching exercises called sun salutations. Classes are held on Mondays at 5 p.m.
Level 2 is a more rigorous flow class with regular use of sun salutation variations, more complex postures and some inversions. Classes will be held on Thursdays at 5 p.m.
The spring equinox practice will be held on Thursday, March 20, 5 p.m.
Yoga, says von Ruden, is a great way to practice good health techniques at home or work without lots of costly equipment.
Mats and other props are provided by the studio located in Faith United Church, 1001 5th Street, International Falls. (Use the west entrance and go upstairs). Pricing begin at $12 with multiple class and season rates available.
