Legislating poor choices

To the editor,
It is frustrating seeing the government tying up industry because of poor consumer choices.
The price of fuel is up and going higher. Will that stop the backwood's flow of vehicles road hunting in the fall? Will that stop the warming up the car for 20 minutes and then driving to the grocery store and while shopping for 45 minutes leaving the car run to keep it warm? Or will someone sue the manufacturer because the stated mileage does not fit his driving style?
Calorie and nutrition signs required at a restaurant when the amounts of food and cooking procedures change dramatically due to what is ordered would be another. The "large" person at a buffet would not have a calculator big enough to count everything.
And yet it seems to be a "polite" gesture to leave food on the plate?
It is difficult to legislate consumer choices by regulating the provider who is trying to fulfill what the consumer is asking for.
A long period of education like what has been done on the smoking issue seems to be best.
