New questions raised by City Beach plan

To the editor,
So Commissioner Kallie Briggs thinks the City Beach area residents concerns about allowing recreational vehicles at City Beach are “ridiculous,” and Commissioner Chuck Lepper thinks those of us who live in the area are “lucky.”
Well, thank you for the support! Maybe Commissioner Briggs should have attended the zoning meeting, the room was packed and many people voiced concerns about camping in their “neighborhood.” The neighbors who attended the zoning meeting are not all lake property owners, many of those in attendance live on the south side of County Road 20. If there were few supporters of the ban on camping at City Beach at the county board meeting, I would think that most of them were at work on Tuesday morning earning a check to help pay for the homes they are “lucky” to have.
You’re right, Commissioners Lepper and Briggs, let’s punish those ridiculous taxpayers who apparently won a lottery and ended up with lake home near City Beach. What is ridiculous is the City Beach planning committees’ cry for more beach usage.
What difference does it make to the city if there are 10 people at the beach or 100? You make no money either way. The tent camping recommendation did not come from any of the audience in attendance at the zoning meeting, it came out of left field as a recommendation from a zoning committee member. The new proposal to allow tent camping creates new questions for the City Beach Committee. How will the beach be managed? Is the city going to leave the gates and bathroom area open 24 hours a day to accommodate the campers?
I would be concerned if I was the camp host; sounds like they will be working 24 hours a day, too!
Commissioner Briggs claims that RV Camping on Rainy Lake is “desperately needed.” She should be aware that we have two areas for RV camping on the lake within one-half mile from the City Beach.
What we desperately need is some respect from those who are elected to manage our city and county.
Thank you, Commissioner Wade Pavleck, for representing your district, we appreciate your efforts. I am sure you will be fighting this battle again soon, as I think the City Beach Committee is not done with their plan to get RVs into the beach, with or without the support of the “ridiculous,” “lucky” neighbors who oppose the plan!
