Falls native and resident Mark Ness carded a 1-under-par at the Falls Country Club Saturday to capture the annual Budweiser Open Golf Tournament.
Anna Horning of the Falls was named to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities dean’s and scholars’ list for spring quarter.

25 YEARS AGO
Kay Coulombe and Lorraine Elliott were among more than 30,000 independent beauty consultants and sales directors who recently attended the Mary Kay Cosmetics Inc. 1984 national seminar in Dallas, Texas.Karen McBride, 2111 Third Ave. E., South International Falls, was awarded a $500 transfer scholarship by St. Cloud State University.

40 YEARS AGO
On Sunday morning, at 10 o’clock, the first service of worship will be conducted in the newly constructed Faith United Church sanctuary. This service will mark the realization of a dream that began in 1955 when the first financial drive was conducted to construct a new church.
Mr. and Mrs. William Morris, 1007 11th St., attended a coffee hour for parents of new University of Minnesota students at the Minneapolis campus. Their son, Alan, will begin his freshman studies in liberal arts at the university this fall.
Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Preece, 1107 Sixth St., will be honored at an open house reception in observance of their golden wedding anniversary from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Falls Country Club.

50 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. Arne Nygard and six children and Mr. and Mrs. L.V. Anderson, Mesa, Ariz., celebrated their birthdays all at one time at the Nygard home on Loman Route.
Mrs. Americo Micheletti, 807 Seventh St., was guest of honor at a farewell dinner party at Island View Lodge. The family plans to move soon to west Hibbing where they have purchased a home.
August Swenson, Loman’s oldest citizen, celebrated his 87th birthday Friday. He was guest of honor at a party at the Bert Dahl home.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hardy Sr., Eighth Street, had as their visitors, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Ayotte and daughters, New London. It has been 17 years since the Ayottes had been in the Falls area to visit relatives.

60 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. Anton Netland, 1105 Eighth St., enjoyed a family reunion for the first time in 30 years during the last two weeks of July. All of Mrs. Netland’s five children by a previous marriage attended.
Patrick Sullivan, Howard Viger, James Gordon and Donald Charnell enlisted in the U.S. Army in Duluth Tuesday.
Miss June Taxearhis of Ericsburg, whose marriage to Vincent Pulicicchio will be an event of Aug. 27, was feted at a bridal shower in St. Thomas parish hall.
Dick Hillstead’s single, scoring Frank Vertnik from second base, last night gave the Elks a 6-5 softball victory over the Mando Employees Club.
