Edward B. Kinports Sr., M.D., and his extended family are vacationing in the Falls during the first half of August. They are staying on Gateway Island, previously called Backus Island. Dr. Kinports Sr.’s mother, Olive Backus, was the sister of E.W. Backus.
Award winners at the Voyageur Elementary Basketball Camp were Adam Osterhaus, Chris Bujold, Todd Perala, Alysa Ruelle, Emilee Traxler, Andrea Millerbernd, Jordan Hedlund, Tim Meer, Sarah Bradley, Karn Fraik and Jeanine Johnson.

Jeff Lindvall’s “pretty straightforward” round, a two-under par 68, earned him the championship of the seventh annual Budweiser Invitational Golf Tournament Saturday at the Falls Country Club.
An Eagle Court of Honor for Steven Golnick of International Falls was conducted recently, making him the first of three members of Troop 151 scheduled to become Eagle Scouts this year.

Mike Romslo, 29, was promoted from the position of Insulite Quality Control Supervisor to Construction Superintendent.
Scheduled to be ready for the opening of this year’s hockey season is the arena now under construction adjacent to Falls High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Emery, 1106 Ninth, attended a Tupperware meeting last Saturday in Duluth at the warehouse.
Mrs. Ed Collins from LaMesa, Calif., is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Johnson , 1112 Eighth Ave., and other friends in the area. Mr. Collins was formerly deputy collector of customs at Ranier and Falls ports.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Roland Bahr, Twelfth Avenue and Third street, Janet Marie, 7 pounds, 3 1/4 ounces.
Joe Hubbell, Loman farmer, suffered two broken ribs and severe bruises when a nine-month-old bull charged him as he walked across the barn lot of his farm.
Michael Todd’s Around the World in 80 Days — “The Greatest Show on Earth,” started yesterday at Grand Theater. Forty-four stars and a cast of 68,894.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blanchard were pleasantly surprised this evening by a group of about 25 relatives and friends on their 25th wedding anniversary.
60 YEARS AGO
Dr. and Mrs. R.H. Monahan, who will move soon from this city to Minneapolis, are being honored at farewell parties and social events.
Robert “Cubby” Johnson, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. F. Ickert, 1123 Main Ave., left this morning for Bemidji, where he will enlist for a year in the U.S. Army.
Wilfred Steingas, employee of The Daily Journal for 12 years, is moving to Missoula, Mont., where he will work in the shop of the University Press at the University of Montana.
Duane Stenberg, who has been employed by Mando for eight months, left this morning for a visit to his home at Ada.
