Born to George Swenson and Melody Nelson-Swenson, at Falls Memorial Hospital, today, was a son Kyler John Swenson, weighing 5 pounds, 7.8 ounces and measuring 19 1/2 inches.
While most boaters in Borderland were settled in for a long winter’s nap, a few hearty skippers may have set a record Tuesday for the latest date for traveling to Kettle Falls on the water. “This is the latest I've ever done it,” said veteran lake resident Mike Williams. And Williams was not alone on the lake. He said two other boats carrying Jerrod, Matt and Mike Shermoen also made the trip.

Barbara Lorenson announces the birth of her son, Zachary Tobias, 9 pounds, 5 1/4 ounces, 22 inches long, born today in Falls Memorial Hospital.
John M. Patterson, son of John E. and Helen M. Patterson of 909 Riverside Drive, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of senior airman.

Bronco basketball center Larry Rehn has seen limited duty so far this year because of two sprained ankles. Now at full strength, the 6-foot, 5-inch center will use his height on the boards and will take some of the pressure off Morris Virden.
Making up the first line for the Bronco hockey team are Mike Lucachick, Mark Koerbitz and Ron Ginter.
Mr. and Mrs. Reynold Lofgren, Juanita and Danny of International Falls were Saturday visitors at the home of her parents, Pastor and Mrs. Skifstad, Northome.
New members of the Papermakers 4-H club are Debbie Porter and Cathy Thompson.

Forward Gary Keenan continued to pace the Falls Bronco cagers Friday night when he scored 26 points and snagged half his team’s rebounds to give Coach Tom Bergstedt’s squad a 66-54 victory over Virginia in the first District 27 game of the season for both teams.
Fred Williams, trustee of the village of Ranier, completed his sixth year in that capacity at the final regular meeting of the village council held in the council rooms. The incumbent did not file for re-election. He will be succeeded by James Laurent.
Girl Scout Troop 125 met Thursday in the home of Mrs. Ralph Pearson. We drew names for exchanging Christmas gifts. Susan Haugland served the treat. We also learned a few games. — Carol Chowan, scribe.
Gail Jameson was elected honored queen by Job’s Daughters, Bethel 14. Others elected were Jean Bluhm, senior princess, Marilyn Covel, guide, and Marsha Holbrook, marshal.
60 YEARS AGO
Charles Burgin, a bachelor commonly known as “Sailor Charlie” lost all his belongings — including a $10 Social Security check — in a fire which gutted his small home in South International Falls several days ago.
Harry Hakenson has completed piping water into his residence from his spring which is located across the creek near the Papermakers’ Community Building.
Keith Harmon of Minneapolis arrived Saturday for a week’s visit with his mother, Mrs. Belle Harmon, Colonial Apartments, and brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Harmon, Riverside Park.
Rainy Lake Horticultural Society elected Mrs. Henry Forslund as president during a meeting in the home of Mrs. Rudolph Lemke. She succeeds Mrs. W.L. Morrison, president for two years, who was given a rising vote of thanks by the members.
