Doug and Kathi Hilfer announce the arrival of their daughter, Raija Michelle, 9 pounds, 6 ounces, 22 inches long, born today at Falls Memorial Hospital.
The South International Falls City Council Thursday tied up loose ends at its final meeting of 1984, which also marked the end of councilor Phil Olson’s 18-year career on the council. Olson decided to retire from the council and did not seek reelection.

An absentee post nuptial shower in honor of Mrs. William Bernard, the former Sherriel Taylor, was held recently in the International State Bank community room.
Participants in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Sunday School Service at 6 p.m. Sunday are Connie Nelson, Steve Jones, Rodney Marquardt, Fred Pihulak and Bradley Hopke.

Despite a 20-point performance by sophomore forward Tony Lynch, the Falls Bronco basketball team dropped a 59-49 decision to a small but speedy Biwabik team at Aurora.
John Koranda celebrated his 34th birthday today enjoying his usual birthday dinner, thanks to his mother-in-law, Mrs. Einar Wangerud of Baudette, and his daughter, Kathie. His wife is confined to LaVerendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, after giving birth to Deanna Claire.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Adee at Falls Memorial hospital today were twin sons, 7 pounds, 1 ounce, Kevin Lane; 5 pounds, 10 ounces, Kim Allen.
A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Rogers, 803 Eighth St., 6 pounds, 9 1/2 ounces, Nancy Kay.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Ficke of International Falls today at the Littlefork Hospital.
A crew of men under the supervision of Ed Jameson Sr., Rainy Lake Route, is busy this week putting up ice for summer resorts on Rainy Lake.
Mrs. Gertie Smrstik, Point O’ Pines, has departed for Chicago to spend the winter with her daughter, Delphine.
First floor employees of the Koochiching County Courthouse this morning enjoyed a Christmas party in the courthouse “coffee room.” V.E. Crabtree, county engineer, was voted in as Santa Claus and distributed the presents. Cake and coffee were served.
Mr. and Mrs. John Kalstad entertained members of Falls High faculty at an open house Yule party Sunday in their home. Wives and husbands of members also were guests.
