Falls High School freshman Jeff Raboin has been named McDonald’s Student of the Week.
Now that she has settled into her new job, home care nurse, Lauri Ysen said she feels at home in Bethel, Alaska, where she moved the beginning of August. Bethel, which is approximately 400 miles directly west of Anchorage, is home to about 5,000 people and can be reached only via barge, ferry, dog sled or plane. A native of International Falls, Ysen graduated from the college of St. Scholastica in Duluth.

Area residents named to the fall quarter dean’s list at the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, were Jayne Karsnia of International Falls and Judith Nelson of Birchdale.
Airman 1st Class Rhonda R. Korpi, daughter of Runo A. and Elsie L. Korpi of International Falls, has been decorated with the Air Force Achievement Medal at Minot Air Force Base, N.D.

Frank Warner LaDu, 78, retired MD&W Railway superintendent and Paul Laurence Company office manager and present treasurer of the Arena Hockey Association, died today in Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park.
John Thompson, who is renting the Wagness home on Atsokan Island this winter, is enjoying a visit from members of his family from Arcadia, Calif. His mother, the former Darlyn Rognerud, is the daughter of the Alex Rogneruds. This is her first Christmas spent back in her hometown since she was 15 years old.
SP/4 Larry Sjoblom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sigurd Sjoblom, 315 Eighth St., is stationed at Chu Lai, Republic of Vietnam, where he arrived over seven months ago. He is an air-frame repairman for helicopters.
A Christmas vacation means a drastic change of pace for Miss Marie Millard, 21, daughter of Mrs. George Millard, 804 Third St., and the late George Millard, for she has just completed her senior drama project at Clarke College, Dubuque, Iowa.
50 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Davison, 716 Eighth Ave., residents of International Falls for 28 years, will celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary on Christmas Day.
The International Typographical Union Auxiliary held their Christmas party on Friday at the home of Mrs. Stanley Louiseau, 616 Seventh St. Mrs. Eugene Holler was pleasantly surprised when she was presented with a 25-year pin. This was the first 25-year pin that the auxiliary had presented to a member.
PFC. Harvey Fischer, son of Mrs. Gladys Peterson, the Falls, was recently named a member of the Registry of the American Technologists at his station, Fort Jay, New York City, N.Y. This entitles him to carry out duties as a medical laboratory technician in any hospital in the United States.
Donald Kennedy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kennedy, Littlefork, was recently promoted to corporal specialist four. Corporal Kennedy has completed more than 20 jumps from a C-47 plane better known as the Army’s flying box-car.

Employees of City Drug store were feted at an annual Yule party last Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Harrison, 1019 Second St.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Dugas, 1013 Sixth St., will entertain relatives at a family dinner Sunday. Guests will include Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Houglum and children and Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Dugas and children.
Emil F. Brown, 62, well-known International Falls businessman, passed away this afternoon at Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The deceased came to the Falls in about 1915 and was employed as a butcher in various shops until he established his own market in 1923, the Fourth Avenue Market.
Members of the C.M. Prettyman family will honor Mrs. Prettyman on her birthday Christmas eve at the family home, 901 Fifth St.
