Today, the last day of the year, is also the last day on the job for Louis J. Smuda, 65, Boise Cascade digest cook, who is retiring after 28 years of service.
Dennis L. Adee, 22, formerly of the Van Lynn Road, was killed instantly this afternoon in a one-car accident on a freeway in Everett, Wash. He was enroute to his home in Everett from his job with the Weyerhauser Company when the accident occurred.
Sophie King was recently elected president of the Sons of Norway. Gordon Amerud was elected vice president and Helmer Jornlin, treasurer.
Dr. and Mrs. Robert Fulton and daughter, Lisa, St. Cloud, visited at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fulton, Ranier, for several days. He is a teacher at Collegeville, St. Cloud.

Appointment of Donald Mason as manager of Harold’s Men's Wear store was announced today by Harold M. Morse, owner.
Thirty-four hours of rain, with only a two-hour break, between 10:46 p.m. Dec. 25 and 11:10 a.m. Dec. 27 brought .59 inches of rain. Had it been fluffy snow instead, you’d be plowing through 10 to 13 inches of new snow.
Mr. and Mrs. Greg Tweeter and daughters, Carol, Cathy and Connie, arrived home last night from Pierre, S.D., where they spent Christmas with Mrs. Tweeter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Paulson.
Clair B. Olson, manager of the J.C. Penney Company store here since July 1957, will become manager of the Penney store in Chippewa Falls, Wis., on Jan. 28.

Mrs. John Iraci, 815 Eighth Ave., who will be 63 years old New Year’s Day, has been a Falls resident 35 years. She was born in Italy.
At 11:40 a.m. o’clock, the storm delivered a son, Michael Edmond, to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Museta, the Falls. His weight was 7 pounds, 12 ounces.
Miss Doris E. Turry will leave Jan. 3, 1950, for Chicago to resume her duties as ward supervisor at Hines Veteran Hospital. Her brother, James Turry, left Monday for St. Paul where he attends St. Thomas College there.
One of the stork’s last visits of 1949 at Littlefork Hospital was at 8:45 a.m. today when he brought a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Vern Thompson of the Falls. The infant weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces.
