Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Zurick, 1102 13th Ave., returned Sunday night by airliner from a week’s holiday in Mexico, needless to say, wearing enviable suntans.

Leading the cheers at the Voyageur hockey games this year are Cathie Severt, mascot Effie Bernard, Janet Ficke, Nancy Glowack, CeCe Charlton and Debbie Edberg.

Falls High School is sending a string quintet to the fifth annual String Quartet Festival at Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, this Friday and Saturday. Attending will be Bill Niemi and Dixie Frick, violins; Cindy Holland, cello; Ellen Wallen, bass; and Kathy Kirk, viola.

Don Thompson has been named chef and kitchen manager of the new Holiday Inn.

50 YEARS AGO

Airman 2/c Ronald Brouillard returned home yesterday from Korea where he spent 13 months with the air force police.
Joe Swanson, brother of Rev. W.E. Swanson, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, is one of the “Four Flying Asians” piloting Evangelist Billy Graham on his current tour of Africa.

Helen L. Hanover, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R.D. Hanover, 916 Second St., is one of the University of Minnesota college of science, literature and the arts students listed as having received a better than “B” grade average for the recently completed quarter.

Proud Cub Scout James Taylor recently received the gold arrow for his wolf badge from his father, Robert Taylor, at the recent awards ceremony.

A son was born today at Littlefork Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. George Ballan, 711 Seventh St.; 7 1/2 pounds. The baby was named James George.

Mrs. Roy C. Munro, 720 Eighth St., entertained 10 guests Friday afternoon at a party to welcome Mrs. Harry Gorden, 612 Sixth Ave. The Gordens recently moved to this city.

Duane L. Anderson, his wife whom he married in Germany and their small daughter, Eunice, arrived in International Falls Saturday to end a 5,000-mile land, sea and air trip from Europe. The Andersons were welcomed by a group of relatives at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albin Anderson, Loman Route.

Jack Hettinger and Leo Toninato accompanied L.D. Croswell and daughter, Jean, to St. Paul Thursday to see the hockey tournament.

70 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Mason of Littlefork are parents of a daughter born yesterday at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.

In celebration of his sixth birthday, Jimmy Faulkner, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Faulkner, entertained 14 friends at a theater party Sunday afternoon. After the group had enjoyed “The Wizard of Oz,” they were served refreshments at the Faulkner home.

Mrs. Chris Garson was guest of honor at a surprise birthday party given by a group of friends at her home.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Dougherty and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Dougherty have moved to Blackduck.
