10 YEARS AGO
A total of 1,063 students achieved placement on the spring quarter dean’s list at Michigan Technological University. Included in that total was Tasha L. Stoiber, a senior enrolled in biological sciences, who earned a 4.0 grade point average.
Commencement ceremonies were held recently at St. Cloud State University. Students from the Falls included Brock Thomas Morrison, Heather Dawn Kantos and Nathaniel Andrew Hemstad.

25 YEARS AGO
Mary Kay Hardwig was among undergraduate students at Winona State University named to the dean’s list for spring quarter.

40 YEARS AGO
The first family reunion in five years is shaping up at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hendee and Freddie, 118 Highway Lane. The three brothers and a sister of Mrs. Hendee began arriving for a week’s visit.
Larry Kinn, who comes to the Falls from Bemidji, is the new manager of the Gibson store here.
Miss Janice Esslinger, LPN, arrived Sunday for a week’s visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Esslinger, 1000 Third St.
Miss Janis Corrin was guest of honor at a prenuptial luncheon given at one o’clock on Saturday in the home of Mrs. Dave Robinson, 420 Sixth St. Co-hostess was Mrs. Innes Nesbitt.

50 YEARS AGO
Kenneth Poirer, South International Falls, was taken ill while on a fishing trip yesterday afternoon. He was taken to Falls Memorial Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery last night.
Mrs. Rolland Carlson was guest of honor at a handkerchief party at the home of Mrs. James Christie Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Carlson and family left this morning for Lander, Wyo., where Mr. Carlson will be employed with a lumber company.
A son was born June 29th to Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Kluge, South International Falls, Stanley Eugene, 9 pounds, 3 1/2 ounces.
Leo C. Minton, 67, 611 Sixth Ave., retired Daily Journal pressman, died unexpectedly at his home here at 9:40 p.m. Friday after an illness of two weeks.

60 YEARS AGO
Several neighborhood children attended a birthday party for one-year-old Ruby Clauson given by Mrs. Earl Clauson, 1309 Main Ave. Mrs. Clauson’s 14-year-old daughter, Shirley Ann, made the child’s birthday cake with one candle.
Miss Shirley Dorgan, 1000 Third St., returned from Duluth. Miss Dorgan, employee at the Falls clinic, spent several days at Benson Optical Company learning about frames and lenses of glasses.
The casketed remains of Pfc. John G. Prettyman arrived June 28 at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation aboard the U.S. Army Transport Sergeant Morris E. Crain. The body was one of 86 World War II dead being returned to Minnesota at request of next of kin.
Miss Sylvia Erickson, Jameson, Addition, left today for Hawthorne, Nev., where she will join her father, Andrew Erickson.
