Kermit and Joan Olson and David and Mary Jean Eilertson wish to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their children, Carolyn Ann and Steven Michael.
Falls inventor Jack Karsnia recently attended the 42nd annual Minnesota Inventor’s Congress in Redwood Falls. Karsnia exhibited his invention The Hammer Tooth during the three-day Congress for which he reached a patent-license agreement last year with manufacturer Estwing.

Kelly Gendron, International Falls, a freshman at St. Cloud State University and graduate of Falls High School, has been awarded a $300 Scholarship for Leaders by the university.
Lucille V. Hams, 1301 First Ave. E., was one of 40 senior citizens to participate in the Elderhostel program at the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, recently.

Navy Ensign Alan T. Johnson, son of Dr. and Mrs. M.W. Johnson of 115 Wayside Lane, completed the carrier qualification phases of advanced training aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington.
Salvation Army Lt. Rebecca Walters has assumed her assignment in the Falls as successor to Lt. Barbara Small and assistant to Capt. Kathy Branch.
Two cadets from Co. B, 367th Engineer Battalion, U.S. Army Reserves, graduated from Minnesota Military Academy in ceremonies held in the armory at Camp Ripley on Saturday. They are Kevin Roche, a Falls native who is employed in Hibbing and James Rinne, 1315 Second Ave. E.
Michael Coleman, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Coleman, 1309 First Ave. W., left June 29 for Bemidji State College where he is attending the Olympic Hockey Camp for two weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Moxness, 1026 Eighth St., will leave Friday for Fort Riley, Kansas, near Manhattan, where their daughter, Karen, will begin her duties as a dietitian in the Irwin Army Hospital.
Candace, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phillips, Point O’Pines, celebrated her ninth birthday Saturday with a wiener roast and beach party.
Plans to construct a 12-lane bowling center at the Border city were announced today by M.F. Keyes and brother, L.C. Keyes.
Grand marshal of the Fourth of July parade will be 76-year-old Gus Falk, charter member of the VFW when it organized in Paris, France, in 1918.

60 YEARS AGO
Mrs. Mary Harrison, residence of the Falls since 1910, was feted this afternoon in observance of her 78th birthday anniversary. Entertaining in her honor were her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Harrison, 1019 Second St.
Miss Jessie Shaw departed this morning for Seattle, Wash., by way of Vancouver, to spend the summer with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Martin, nee Kathryn Shaw.
Sgt. Leonard G. Holden, stationed at Rapid City air base, Weaver, S.D., will arrive Friday to spend a three-day pass with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Dunahee.
Guests of Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Gookins, Chicago Cafe Apartments, are his father, Otto F. Gookins, and brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Barrett, and their sons, Billy and Bobby, of Cleveland, Ohio. They will remain two weeks.
