Jessie Lundquist of the Falls was among the 240 students named to the second semester 1998-99 dean’s list at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Sheri McHarg, daughter of Mary McHarg of the Falls, has been awarded a $3,000 dean’s scholarship by the College of Saint Benedict for the 1999-2000 academic year.

25 YEARS AGO
In honor of the 25th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Frank, their daughter, Nikki Lynn Frank, requests the pleasure of your company at an open house on Saturday, the 23rd of June from 2 to 5 in the afternoon at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Chowan.
The Daily Journal has added three new employees to its editorial and advertising staff. Todd Keute, 22, has joined the staff as advertising manager, Julie Haag, 27, as news editor and Ken Hanson, 24, as a summer intern.

40 YEARS AGO
Vicky Mio, Kathy McMahon and Mike Larson, 1968 Falls High School alumni, graduated May 29 from Alexandria Area Technical School.
Brian L. Glennie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Glennie, 1117 Seventh Ave., received a bachelor of science degree in packaging technology at commencement exercises recently at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich.
A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Klosner.
Gretchen Haugland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Haugland, 1403 Home Lane, has been selected to sing with the 40-member All State Lutheran Choir.

50 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. Carl M. Christensen, former Falls residents, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday at their home in Waukesha, Wis.
Joseph Nicholas Soboleski received a bachelor of civil engineering degree at graduation exercises Saturday evening at the University of Minnesota.
The Border city council backed up the liquor committee majority by voting 6-1 to close the Riverside Bar by July 1. The committee, after prolonged study, recommended that one store be closed as a means of cutting operating expenses and suggested the Riverside Bar as the most logical one to shut down.
Alderman and Mrs. Urban Kerry, 523 Ninth St., were honored at a dinner party at Island View Lodge Sunday evening on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.

60 YEARS AGO
Mrs. Leah Valsvik has been employed as a secretary in the district clerk of court office, A.J. Carew, district clerk, said today. Mrs. Valsvik succeeds Mrs. Donald Meikle who resigned June 1 because of health conditions.
Mrs. Gene Stensrud, Carson Lupie Addition, was entertained at a stork shower in the home of Mrs. Robert Stish. Hostesses were Mrs. Vernon Smith and Miss Corlyne Richmond.
Mrs. Albert St. Pierre, 1103 Sixth St., submitted to an appendectomy in Falls Memorial Hospital.
Glen G. Van Etten, former Falls resident, today received an emblem for 10 years civilian service in the department of the United States Army.
