10 YEARS AGO
A total of 564 students qualified for the high honors list for the spring semester at Mankato State University, Mankato, achieving a 4.0 straight “A” average. Among the students was Angela Nicole Peterson of International Falls.
For 30 years area seniors have called the 80-unit Woodland Park Apartments home. During those years administration and residents of the public housing facility have depended for help and support on Helen Weum who will retire later this month as its director.

H.E. "Skip" Seiser, 38, has joined The Daily Journal staff as managing editor.
Ron Sutherland, a six-year member of Brown’s Corner 4-H Club, recently took state honors for his achievement record in the automotive project. He was the only Koochiching County 4-H member to win a trip to the national 4-H contest.

40 YEARS AGO
Employees of School District 363, Falls Public Library, the county and School District 361 and residents of towns encompassed by School District 363, Mizpah, Indus, Loman and Border, paid tribute to Miss Lucille Kroll, deputy clerk of School District 363, at an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday in the courthouse annex. Miss Kroll retires tomorrow.
Falls High School alumnus Richard Laird was among the 572 students receiving degrees during the annual spring commencement of Michigan Technological University, Houghton.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernes Sanderson, 100 14th St. W., will be honored at an open house in their home between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. on Sunday. The occasion is their 40th wedding anniversary.
Competing for the crown of Miss International Falls in the Timbertennial-Fourth of July Queen Pageant are Nancy Nord, Linda Benedix, Betty Palm, Debbie Edberg, Karen Knutson, Shirley Sampson, Maggie Musetta, Kathy Oveson, Cheryl Carrier and Nancy Brown.

50 YEARS AGO
A daughter, Rita JoAnn, weighing 7 pounds and 2 ounces, was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Sather, South International Falls, June 26. The baby has a brother, Donald James, 21 months.
Mrs. Arnold Holmestad was guest of honor at a stork shower at the Ukrainian Hall. Mrs. Holmestad was assisted in opening her many gifts by her sister, Kaye Shortridge and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Norman Halvorson.
Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith, 421 Seventh St., celebrated her 10th birthday with a group of nine friends at her home Friday afternoon.
A daughter was born June 27 to Mr. and Mrs. Warner Schuschke, Loman, 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

60 YEARS AGO
Bob Pleimling has purchased the interest of his partner, H.W. “Bill” Browman, in the Dutch room bar and grill. The two men have operated the establishment since May 1947 when they bought it from Ed LePage who retired after he disposed of the business.
M.J. Lynch yesterday closed out his tavern business which he operated in the Rex Hotel building under the name of Mickey’s Lounge.
Walhaug’s new barber shop at 315 Third Ave. (next to Bill’s Bar) is open now ... we are operating two chairs. Clinton “Frenchy” Paquin here after 4 p.m. and all day Saturday. Lloyd Walhaug, proprietor.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Otness moved into their new home, which is nearly completed, in the eastern part of Littlefork village last week.
