Mrs. Adolph (Mathilda Pauline) Hilke, 89, a Borderland resident for 62 years, died Sunday night at Falls Memorial Hospital. She had resided in Woodland Park Apartments the past year after selling her home at City Beach.
Marine Private First Class Gerald D. Thompson, Rogers Route, was promoted to his present rank upon completion of recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif.
Miss Sheila Sheehy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Sheehy, 849 Riverside Drive, was selected as runner-up for the title of Miss Shamrock 1970 in St. Paul last week.
A native of Norway and pioneer Littlefork resident, Mrs. Jenny Grotberg, Woodland Park Apartments, will celebrate her 80th birthday this Sunday.

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Croasdale, 90, who died Thursday at her home, were held this afternoon at the Mission Covenant Church. The Rev. George Wold officiated.
Edward H. Hoffman, 57, National Tea meat department employee, died unexpectedly at 9:30 a.m. today while at the Third Avenue store. Death was caused by a heart attack.
Mrs. Elhue Castle will be guest of honor at a pink and blue shower at 8 p.m. Monday at the home of her sister, Mrs. William Johnson, Loman Route.
Mrs. William V. Kane, wife of the former Falls postmaster and city attorney, died this afternoon at Memorial Hospital.

Jack Wolfe and Arnold Bacon returned from Breckenridge where they attended the wedding of Norman Bacon and Miss Virginia Loop Sunday.
Two International Falls men, Robert V. Snyder and Robert H. Hillstead, are among 900 University of Minnesota students scheduled to receive degrees at spring commencement exercises in Northrop Memorial Auditorium Thursday evening.
Mike Domish and ****** Gay, both prominent in high school activities, have been selected to represent International Falls at the 1950 youth conference to be sponsored by the St. Paul Rotary Club this month.
Miss Ethel Bohman, Ranier, and Mrs. Ed Jameson Sr., were hostesses at a surprise birthday party for their mother, Mrs. Mary Magistad at the Ed Jameson home, Rainy Lake. A noon luncheon was served to 10 guests. A family dinner Tuesday evening at the Ed Jameson home also honored Mrs. Magistad.

The Daily Journal this afternoon received a wire from Sen. Henrik Shipstead in Washington, D.C., revealing that the legislator’s senate amendment for $8,000 to provide lights and buoys on Rainy Lake and Lake of the Woods was OK’d today by a joint committee of senate and house conferences.
M.V. Curran, county engineer who was stricken ill while at work in his office at the courthouse, is reported as getting along “quite well” at his home. He was able to leave the Werner Clinic Wednesday.
Mrs. Frank Zicker, who has been confined to her home for almost a year, is a patient in the Northern Minnesota Hospital.
Death ended the career of a Koochiching County pioneer, John Henry Glava of Ray, at a local hospital late today. He was 77 years old and his fatal illness was of about a week’s duration. He homesteaded in Beaver Township in 1905 and later moved to the village to become its first storekeeper in 1910.
