Until eight months ago, Tim Scholler’s only experience with Africa were the pictures and articles he saw in National Geographic. That was before the 26-year-old joined the Peace Corps and traveled to western Africa.

Mary Kay Hardwig was named to the dean’s list for winter quarter 1983. She is an undergraduate student at the Winona State University.

Army Pfc. John R. Burns, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Klein, 1419 First Ave. E., was assigned as a cannoneer with the 4th Infantry Division near Pleiku, Vietnam, recently.
When St. Thomas Tabernacle Society met Wednesday afternoon, the president, Mrs. O. Toninato, welcomed three new members, Mrs. John Sontorovich, Mrs. Roland Decker and Mrs. Richard DeBenedet.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel J. Arnold, South International Falls, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Anita L., to David P. Hausmann of St. Paul, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hausmann, Island View Route.

A Mother’s Day greeting in the form of a transocean telephone call from Pfc. Benjamin E. Swenson in Germany came through Saturday to his mother, Mrs. Clara Swenson, Crystal Beach Road.
1st Lt. Ivan J. Warmuth, son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Warmuth of International Falls, and Private Joseph A. Andre, whose guardian parents are Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson, former local residents now living in California, are both assigned to the famed 82nd Airborne division which is leaving Fort Bragg, N.C., to join with elements of the third army, and ninth air force at Camp Campbell, Kent.
