The 93rd birthday of great-grandmother Johanna Baumgartner, a resident of Falls Good Samaritan Center, was the occasion for a four-generation picture.
Falls High School junior Molly LaVigne received first place in the Minnesota state ex-prisoner of war essay contest titled “Behind Barb Wire.”

25 YEARS AGO
Irving L. Sher, 56, a well-known International Falls businessman, died today at Veterans’ Hospital in Minneapolis from complications of heart disease.
Dwight Holmbo, a 1965 graduate of Falls High School, has accepted the new position of electronics division quality assurance manager at ADC in the Twin Cities.

40 YEARS AGO
Retiring teachers Principal Harold Barber, George Bateman and Leo Jung will be honored at 8 p.m. May 14 in Backus Auditorium.
Falls High School alumnae who received degrees Sunday at Concordia College, Moorhead, were Gary Allen Graham, Timothy L. Lundin and Larry K. Vold.
The American Legion Auxiliary today announced the 1968 Girls State delegate and alternate. They are, respectively, Doreen Dahl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dahl, and Karen Knutson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Knutson.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Carr, 1604 Fifth Ave. E., will be honored at an open house Saturday in their home on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.

The Broncos’ 440 relay team of Harry Arch, Dick Kalb, Terry Carew and Rod White raced to a first-place finish in the time of 47:8 at the Doc Savage Invitational meet at Hibbing Saturday.
Ronald Caple of International Falls is among top ranking students at St. Olaf College, Northfield.
Mrs. Aldo Demarki was elected Grand Regent at the Catholic Daughters of America meeting last night in the community building.
Eugene Holler and son, Darrel, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Donald Holler, motored to Duluth Tuesday to visit Mrs. Eugene Holler, who is a patient at St. Mary’s Hospital.

60 YEARS AGO
Kenneth L. Breneman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Breneman, 417 Seventh St., returned home after receiving his discharge from the army after two years service.
Homemade candy boxed in pound and half-pounds for Mother’s Day. Tasty confections made of choice ingredients handmade by Mrs. Myhr. Mansfield and Dahl Confectionery, 501 Third St.
Milton, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Frahm, Jr., has been returned to his home from Littlefork where he received treatment following an appendicitis attack.
Mr. and Mrs. Duane Nance, Sleepy Hollow Cabins, announce the birth of a daughter in Northern Minnesota Hospital this morning.
