The Falls High School boys’ cross country team placed eighth in this year’s Region 7AA meet. Team members are Stan Johnson, Tony Turenne, Bruce Goertz, Ladd Ojala, Randy Himes, Paul Ness, Shawn Schnick, Chris Dandeneau, Steve Boyum, Monte Shannon, Kirk Aili, Matt Napier, Tim Heinitz, Brian Glatz, Brian Shirk, Head Coach Stan Johnson and assistant coach John Cann.
At Thursday’s International Falls Christian Women’s Club luncheon, Cheryl Hartje is scheduled to model fur fashions from Dana’s, a store owned by Dana Hartje.

40 YEARS AGO
A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Terry Aitchison.
Mr. and Mrs. John Peterson have their son, Michael, home from UMD for the hunting weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lauring are back living on Forest Point planning to live there permanently after two years in Cloquet, where Ed has been a consultant with the Conwed Corporation.
Appointment of Ronald S. Mellstrom, 31, to the accounting staff of the Falls Paper Division, Boise Cascade, was announced today.

50 YEARS AGO
Mrs. Irene Anderson, 426 Third St., returned Sunday from California where she attended a reunion of the family of her late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kennedy. Mrs. Kennedy (Nellie) resided in the Falls until her death three years ago.
Winners in the “Make It Yourself With Wool” contest Saturday in Duluth were Judy Baron, first place in the senior division, Margaret Donahue, third place winner in the junior division and Priscilla Coran, third place winner in the senior division.
James C. Coss, 39, formerly of Hibbing, joined the firm of Debenedet’s Fuel and Heating, Third Avenue and 12th Street, this week as furnace service and installation man.
Three new members were initiated at a meeting of the BPO Does Monday evening at Elks Hall. The new members are Mrs. Willis Halvorson, Mrs. Gene Stensrud and Mrs. John Furuseth.

60 YEARS AGO
A new state regulation requiring deer hunters to wear caps 100 percent red and coats three-quarters solid red has touched off a run on caps, coats and red cloth at local stores.
Rev. Jesper Holmquist, who has served three Lutheran congregations in the border area since 1942, plans to leave the community to accept a call from Bethesda Lutheran Church of Morrison, Ill.
Girl Scout Troop 23 elected officers in the high school room. Elected were Pernell Mirka, president; Rochelle LaBelle, vice president; Shirley Darvell, treasurer, and Linda Pullar, scribe.
Robert Murray, sophomore at Duluth branch of University of Minnesota, is making a satisfactory recovery at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, where he has been confined since Wednesday. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.C. Murray, 1107 11th Ave., have been informed that his throat ailment was a “strep” infection, not diptheria as falsely reported.
