Paul Bergstrom, Ericsburg, was the recent winner of Sheridan Motors’ grand prize drawing — a free vacation in Reno, Nev.

40 YEARS AGO
Naval Aviation Officer Candidate Gerald L. Finstad, son of Mr. Palmer J. Finstad of 107 W. 13th St., has begun training at Aviation Officer Candidate School at the Naval Aviation School’s Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.
Considered to be the oldest active trapshooter in the United States is A.M. (Tony) Hoover, 92, a former International Falls resident who shot his first target in 1908 while living here.
Mrs. James (Maria) Rinne, 1314 Second Ave. E., made the response for new citizens at the recent Citizenship day dinner in Donaldson’s Garden Room, Minneapolis. Attired in dress native to her country of birth, South Korea, Mrs. Rinne was seated at the head table.
Construction Mechanic Construction Apprentice Lyle N. McCloud, U.S. Navy, is serving with the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 302 in Vietnam.

50 YEARS AGO
Childhood sweethearts separated for 50 years were guests at a wedding reception in South International Falls. Mrs. Mattie Jackson, 68, of Wirt, and Albert Warren, 73, of Walker, were married Oct. 14. More than 100 relatives congratulated the couple during the reception held at the home of the bride’s son, Marcus Jackson.
A pink and blue shower was given Thursday night to surprise Mrs. Vernon Scholler at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Raymond Cousineau, Papermakers Colony.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Aasen and son Roger will leave Tuesday morning by bus for San Bernardino, Calif., where they will make their home.
A Halloween theme was used at the birthday party honoring Linda Chovan from 3 to 6 p.m. Mrs. John Chovan, 1304 10th St., entertained 13 friends of Linda to mark her ninth birthday.

60 YEARS AGO
A daughter was born today to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Piekarski, 1101 Ninth St. The infant, named Shirley Ann, weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces at birth.
Mr. and Mrs. John Kocinski Sr., residents of Ray for 28 years, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday. They will be entertained by members of their family at a 5 o’clock dinner at the Ray School.
Kay Sharon Paulson was elected president of Girl Scout Troop 19. Others elected were Janet Sawchuk, vice president and Sandra Passe, secretary-scribe.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wallen are parents of a son born Oct. 17 in Falls Memorial Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces.
