U.S. Marine David L. Hummel, son of Jim and Mary Hummel, International Falls, was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant.
Hummel has been serving his country in the maintenance support services group of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit for the past six months in Kuwait, the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf where he supported tsunami disaster relief in Bangladesh. He and his unit are currently returning to the states on board the USS Kearsarge.
While serving overseas on his second deployment, Hummel re-enlisted for an additional four years and will be temporarily stationed at Camp Lejune, N.C., until he receives posting to his new assignment.
He is a 2002 graduate of Falls High School.
