Second Lieutenant Bryan M. Hielscher, a 1999 graduate of Falls High School and son of Mike Hielscher of Littlefork and Mary Hielscher of International Falls, was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal for outstanding achievement by the Department of the Air Force.

According to a certificate awarded him from the Department of the Air Force, signed May 1, 2007, by United States Air Force Colonel Richard P. Mihalik, Director of Staff, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command:

“Second Lieutenant Hielscher distinguished himself by outstanding achievement as an action officer assigned to the Office for Air Force Smart Operations, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. Lieutenant Hielscher’s efforts led to vast improvements in the command’s Air Force Smart Operations program. As lead action officer for the first Air Education and Training Command Air Force Smart Operations Conference, he hosted 55 representatives from across the command in a world-class training workshop. Lieutenant Hielscher also captured event data in a new online database, allowing dissemination of best practices throughout the Air Force. Because of his efforts, Air Education and Training Command leads the Air Force in using this new information-sharing database. Lieutenant Hielscher also graduated from the 40-hour Facilitator Training Course, becoming one of the first generation of event facilitators across the entire Air Force. The distinctive accomplishments of Lieutenant Hielscher reflect credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.”

Hielscher graduated from Officer Candidate School Sept. 29, 2006, at Montgomery, Ala.
