LAKE MILLE LACS
A few ‘‘die-hard’’ muskie anglers continue to work the Garrison end with some success, as a couple of 50-inch fish were caught last weekend. Most of the shorelines, bays, and harbors now have a skim of ice, ending any opportunities to fish open water.

LAKE OF THE WOODS
Catching walleyes remains an option on the Rainy River, but shoreline ice is limiting boat traffic. Most bays and creek inlets are now covered with a thin layer of ice, so most resorts and anglers are preparing for the upcoming winter fishing season.

LEECH LAKE AREA
The open-water season has ended and ice has started to form along the shorelines and around the bays. Some of the smaller bays and most large ponds were covered with a skim of ice early this week.

RAINY LAKE
A few anglers are fishing the Rainy River, but the recent cold has prevented most from getting out. With ice forming in the shallow bays, anglers are hoping for an early start to the winter season.

LAKE WINNIBIGOSHISH
There isn’t much to report other than most resorts are gearing up for the ice-fishing season. Ice has formed along the shorelines, but most of it is disappearing during the day. The water is cold, so any stretch of cold weather should put a layer of skim ice on the lake if the wind doesn’t blow.

BEMIDJI AREA
Skim ice has taken hold on the bays and shorelines, preventing any angling opportunities.

BLACKDUCK AREA
The open-water fishing season has come to an end now that the small lakes and bays are capped with ice.

DETROIT LAKES
A few cold nights have capped many bays, small lakes, and ponds, so open-water fishing is not an option. Most anglers are waiting for walkable ice to form, which could happen very soon if it stays cold and calm.

LAKE KABETOGAMA
The few open-water anglers that ventured out last weekend had no problem finding walleyes. A coating of snow and single-digit temperatures early this week ended those opportunities.

LAKE VERMILION
A few muskie die-hards are trolling for the next state record with limited success. Most bays now have ice, making boat launching difficult.
