Betsy M. Hanks, 25, was taken into custody Friday by investigators with the Beltrami Sheriff’s Office and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in connection with a shooting death in Shooks Township near Kelliher earlier in the week.
On Tuesday, Beltrami deputies responded to a 911 call placed by Hanks, who reported that her common-law husband Matthew D. Albert, 27, had suffered a gunshot wound to his head.
Albert was transported by Blackduck ambulance to a landing site and transferred to the North Memorial Air Ambulance for transport to North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis. Albert never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead Friday. His body was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.
On Friday, Hanks was taken into custody and placed at the Beltrami County Jail. Hanks led officers to Mizpah where a handgun believed used in the incident was recovered. Reports will be forwarded to the Beltrami County attorney for review regarding potential murder charges.
