Falls School Board to meet in committee

Filed under:

Average: 3 (1 vote)

The Falls School Board is scheduled to meet as a committee to discuss two items.
The meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday in room 130 at Falls High School.
The board is scheduled to discuss a vacant school board position. The board in March interviewed five candidates for the position. Those candidates are Karen Bates, Roberta Ingvaldson, Stuart Nordquist, Michelle Hebner and Willi Kostiuk. The position was left vacant with the resignation of Amy Hardwig-Eberspacher.
The board is expected to appoint a candidate to the position when it meets April 21. The appointed board member will serve until January and the position will be open for the November election.
The board is also scheduled to discuss transition options as Superintendent Don Langan plans to retire. Langan expects to retire by or on Dec. 31 to give the district enough time to appoint a new superintendent.

Excuse me, but… Who came up with these candidates? How are they nominated? And, don’t all five already have some appointment or affiliation to the school district already?

To me, this looks like someone is trying to get by with something. Like maybe –the Falls School Board is hand picking who gets to serve on the Falls School Board.

Would it not be more democratic to see if the other candidates from the last school board election would still be willing to serve? Start with the runner-up and work your way down that list. At least these candidates had some public votes behind them.

The school board solicited applications from the public for the position. Those named in the story applied for the position. They are not nominated.

Thanks, for the input. I must have missed the solicitation.

The fact the candidates did apply, seems a little fairer. The fact the all the candidates already have some type of affiliation to the School District, does make me wonder if the solicitation went any further than the school district property.

I still think that going back to the last election result would have been correct thing to do. By taking applications and the School Board deciding on the applicant, the School Board has taken the public out of what should been a publicly elected position.

I agree with you 100% LoggerGirl. Nobody with any affiliation with the school under this process should be considered at all. You are also correct, in my opinion, that those who ran for the position in the last election should have been contacted first. It would seem our blog discussions on Nepotism and Croynism did not take hold with a school system that has gone backword for the last 30 years. By the way, does this school board graduate in the 50%-80% range as reported this week in the national news or is it graduating in the 99.9% range like it used to??? Let those that have the desire to accomplish something good by sticking their necks out, be selected for the vacant school board position, until such time as the next election when several current board members and "other" school employee's can be let go for pastures of some color elswhere. Put your name on the list LoggerGirl, I'll vote for you. I think I have about 1800 other votes for you also.

Its called Croynism, but you can put your election sign on my front yard on 3rd street for all to see. A dose of their own medicine should cure the disease and there are probably 2000 doses of that go by my front yard every day.
