Taylar Nelson had another strong game, Bailey Bernard scored her first career goal and International Falls came alive in the third period Monday in a 3-0 win at Babbitt-Embarrass/Tower-Soudan.
“It was a classic trap game,” Broncos head coach Gerald Bolstad said, noting his team was sluggish in the first and second periods coming off wins against Hibbing/Chisholm and Thief River Falls.
Nelson, who tallied 18 saves, recorded her second shutout of the season and kept the Broncos even in the second period, which Bolstad called one of his team’s worst periods of the year.
Things turned around quickly in the third, however, and Hillary Fox opened the scoring at the 6:27 mark. Bernard scored at 15:31 and Amy Auran added an empty-net goal.
The Broncos outshot BETS 15-3 in the third.
“We just took it to them. Took the game away,” Bolstad said.
Cassie Swanson finished with 32 saves for BETS (4-6).
The Broncos (6-3-3) now turn their focus to the 2009 Sertoma/Home Federal Shootout in Rochester. The Falls opens the holiday tournament at 7:30 p.m. Monday against the MSO Icebergs, a Wisconsin team located south of Madison.
