International Falls took care of business Thursday with a convincing 110-67 win over Mesabi East on Parent’s Night at the Falls Natatorium.

“Awesome with like three exclamation marks behind it. There was a lot of spirit,” said Monica Hasbargen, one of only two seniors on the Broncos.

Hasbargen was one of many to notch top finishes against the Giants. Hasbargen finished first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:40.5, while Rachel Adams tallied a top finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:27.05 and 100 freestyle in 1:04.31. Maggie West was first in the 50 freestyle (27.49), Morgan Bruess finished first in the 500 freestyle (6:48.52) and Ashley Hasbargen was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.93).

“We’re going to taper really well and send a lot of girls into finals,” said senior Grace Thorstad. The Section 7A championships are scheduled for Nov. 12 and 14 in Grand Rapids.

The Broncos also had two relays finish first — Thorstad, Adams, Herzig and West combined to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:54.38) and Herzig, Monica Hasbargen, Adams and Youso won the 400 freestyle relay (4:21.57).

“Very proud of them. Finished on a high note,” Broncos head coach Jill Herzig said. “We doubled our victories from last year, so that makes for a promising future of the program.”

The Broncos have one more competition Tuesday at Mesabi East in the final match of the regular season.
