Swimming: Broncos top BETA again

» Read similar stories filed under:

International Falls defeated BETA on Tuesday for the second time this season. Although the scores were significantly different in both duels as the Broncos won 58.5-35-5 Tuesday using four-lane scoring while winning 94-76 back on Sept. 17 using six-lane scoring.

BETA is a co-op between Babbitt-Embarrass, Tower-Soudan and Ely.

“Getting first and second was pivotal, and we had some great races,” Broncos head coach Jill Herzig said.

With her team still increasing workouts in practice, Herzig was even more impressed with her “tired” team, as she called it. Workout distances will start to decrease this week in an effort to have a peak performance at sections, which are Nov. 12 and Nov. 14.

The Broncos also won without stand-out junior Maggie West, who missed the meet with an illness.

Rachel Adams was a part of three top finishes Tuesday to lead the Broncos. The sophomore finished first in the 50-yard freestyle in 28.08 seconds and first in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.26. She also joined Abby Oveson, Paige Herzig and Therese Youso in the 400 freestyle relay, which finished first in 4:19.75.

Herzig finished first in the 200 individual medley in 2:42.82 and combined with Morgan Bruess, Grace Thorstad and Youso to finish tied for first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:57.81. Tamera Stouffer-Batcher added a top finish in the 100 butterfly (1:19.19) and Bruess added a first place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:14.69).

The Broncos return to action Saturday at the Duluth East Invitational at Morgan Park.
