Rainy River struggled early Saturday in a 64-35 loss to Fergus Falls in the season-opener.
However, RRCC coach Tim Myles thinks his team will be much better than last year’s 3-19 season.
“The score didn’t show it, but we’re much stronger, Myles said.
Freshman Asha Johnson led the Voyageurs (0-1) with 11 points, while Monica McAllister tallied eight.
Claudia Henriquez scored seven points and Kayla Cluff had four points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Voyageurs.
“We just have to play a little better defensively and communicate more,” Myles said.
The Spartans (1-0), who finished 15-10 last year, got 16 points and 11 rebounds from Krista Shaikoski. Deveny Moore added 12 points and Jess Amann chipped in with 11.
RRCC returns to action this weekend in the Vermilion Tournament in Ely.
