Rainy River opened Saturday with a loss, but recovered to split a doubleheader in Hibbing.
The Voyageurs lost to Hibbing 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-15) before trumping Gogebic Community College 3-0 (25-9, 25-23, 25-23). Gogebic is in Ironwood, Mich.
In the loss to Hibbing, Sam Alberts had a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs, while Nicole Beckel added seven kills and 13 digs. Carley Lake had eight kills and four ace serves, Mickaela Nogowski made 14 digs and Monica McAllister tallied 28 set assists.
Alberts also did well in the victory over Gogebic, posting 15 kills, 19 digs and five ace serves. Nogowski made 21 digs, Beckel recorded 12 kills and 10 digs and McAllister notched 32 set assists and 10 digs.
The Voyageurs (3-18, 2-9 MCAC) return to action Tuesday against Central Lakes in their last home match of the season.
