Escape in new travel books

The weather has definitely made me want to escape and as I can’t literally leave town and find someplace warm and sunny I’m escaping into books. I’m also dreaming of escape and we have some new travel books that are making me excited to visit some places not that far from home.

Books, movies to escape the weather

What wacky weather we’re having this spring. Hopefully, you’ve come to the library and stocked up on books and movies to allow you to escape from the weather.
Here are some new titles in the Vigilance Collection. The collection is growing and we have gotten some good responses to the materials available. Take a look for yourself.

Time for winter to finally move on ...

The cool weather of late is making me plum loco for the seasons to finally change and winter move on.
In the meantime, here are some new books to keep us all occupied and maybe prevent us from going stir crazy or getting cabin fever.

Time for the next Borderland Reads

May is only a week away and it’s definitely beginning to look like spring might actually arrive.
It’s about time for the next Borderland Reads. Stop by the library and vote for the title you’d like to read with your family this summer. We have selected a variety of titles appropriate for families with children in upper elementary and above. Let us know what you’d enjoy. The library is beginning its preparations for summer so May programming will be limited to Family Night early in the month and the Friends of the Library board meeting and book sale.

Children’s books to keep kids reading

Maybe spring is really on its way. But that doesn’t mean you should stop reading. Here are a handful of children’s books to keep your kids reading even when the weather’s nice.
Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat by Lynne Jonell received the 2007 Minnesota Book Award for Children’s Literature. Emmy discovers her family is being drugged with rat potions by her horrid nanny and seeks with her animals friends to foil the dastardly plot. This one might take a bit of work to get a kid to read. The cover art isn’t very appealing but the story is a lot of fun.

Curl up with a good book

Stay warm and curl up with a good book, movie or book on compact disk. The weather outside has been frightful the last few days and makes you wonder if spring will ever arrive. But regardless of the weather, the library is open and willing to help you find something to read, watch or listen to. So don’t be a stranger, stop by your public library and enjoy the many resources we have available for your reading, listening and watching pleasure.

Books to help forget the weather

The library has some great new fiction to make you forget the weather outside that seems to be very slowly creeping toward spring. So hop on down to the library and check out a book or two to keep your mind off the seasons.

Tax deadline almost upon us

March came in like a lion and appears to be going out like a lion as well, but maybe we can move on to April showers bring May flowers.

Great time to get rid of pesky fees

Food for Fines continues through Saturday, March 22. If you have fines now is a great time to get rid of those pesky fees. Bring in a can of food for each dollar owed for late materials and we will waive the fine.
The snow is melting but the weather is still not very spring like unless you like cold, damp weather with lots of puddles. So bring your kids on down to the library and pick out a book or two to read on those chilly, damp evenings. Here are a few suggestions from the new books in the junior room.

Food for Fines scheduled March 17-22

Food for Fines runs March 17-22. If you have fines, next week is an excellent opportunity to pay off those fines by bringing in one can of food for every dollar owed. The library will waive your fines and you will be supporting the food shelf in their very important March Foodshare drive. The library cannot accept food for lost or damage fees. Please only bring in new cans or boxes of food. Please do not bring in past dated food. The food shelf cannot use them.
